A new list featuring more than 350 of Cheshire East's most distinctive buildings and structures has been drawn up by the Council's heritage and design team.

The Local List of Historic Buildings, which includes 11 in Prestbury, has been produced to enable those buildings to be closely watched and to influence the planning process in relation to them. The list became possible thanks to the help of residents who nominated many of the buildings they feel enhance both the street scene and sense of distinctiveness in the village.

Prestbury Village Hall and Ford House appear on the list, along with nine of Prestbury's residential buildings. These are Old School House and Woodside Farm on Bonis Hall Lane, the Old Coach House and White Oak Cottage on Collar House Drive, Old Dumbah on Dumbah Lane, Hawthorn Cottage and Yew Tree Cottage on Heybridge Lane. Other farms included on the list are Higher Yewards Farm on Butley Lanes and Lumb Farm on Woodford Lane.

Councillor Peter Mason, Cabinet member with responsibility for procurement, assets and shared services, said: "Cheshire East has a rich and varied heritage which is reflected in the buildings and structures which make up its towns and villages. The council is keen to recognise this distinctive heritage.

"The buildings included on the list positively contribute to the quality of the local areas in question. The public role in the preparation of this list has been an important one and I thank all residents across the borough for their contribution."

A Supplementary Planning Document has also been set up alongside the list, which will be used to provide guidance to the likes of developers and planners on planning applications which may affect these heritage assets. Inclusion in this list does not afford any additional statutory protection or grant aid but it ensures that every effort will be made to conserve the buildings and structures.

Where an application is submitted to the Council for alteration, extension or demolition the special interest of these buildings will be taken into consideration and its local listing status will be a material consideration when determining the application.

Heybridge Farm on Heybridge Lane was built in 1682, surely it should be included in the list of important historic buildings.
