Following their successful Palm Sunday concert, Prestbury Choral Society are now rehearsing for their next concert to be held at Prestbury CofE Primary School on Saturday, June 25th.

Choir member, Cynthia Crewe, said "The summer concert is always in a lighter and more secular vein, so this year we are having a '1920s Nostalgia Night', which promises to be a lot of fun.

"One piece is 'The Rio Grande', a poem by Sacheverell Sitwell set for chorus and piano by Constant Lambert - it's an exciting work which is very 'jazzy', lots of syncopated rhythms, ragtime and harmonies - a sort of Duke Ellington meets choral tradition!

"Along with this we will perform a number of choral arrangements from a collection entitled 'In the Mood', such as Cole Porter's 'Let's do it' and George and Ira Gershwin's 'S wonderful. It's all a far cry from our serious classical, often liturgical, music, but we do like to be versatile! And it's such fun to do."

The summer concert will start at 7.30pm and strawberries and cream will be served along with wine - perfect for a summer evening's concert.

Tickets: £9.50 (concessions £8.50) at the door or by calling 01625 829353. For further information visit the Prestbury Choral Society website.
