A fascinating exhibition of old photographs and a narrative of the history of the village has recently been developed and sponsored by Friends of Prestbury.

It was created as an outdoor exhibition, depicting the evolution of Prestbury over the last 130 years, to mark the official opening Parrott's Field to the public in May.

Friends of Prestbury re-staged the exhibition on Saturday, to coincide with the Rose Queen Festival and provide a second chance for local residents and visitors to see it.

prestbury.com have now taken the Century of Memories exhibition, which contains almost 100 photographs dating back to the 1880's, and converted it in to an electronic book so it is accessible to everyone who missed the events in Parrott's Field. For those who did attend, it provides the opportunity to take another look at this historic exhibition at your leisure.

The organising committee was chaired by Gerald Sokl, with Catherine Toother, David Rogers and John Clayton who developed and scripted the exhibition.

Gerald Sokl, Chairman of the Organising Committee, said "There are some fascinating photos and together they tell the story of how Prestbury has become what it is today.

"We've linked the photos to an explanation of changes that were driven by wider social and economic trends – it's a kind of visual history of the community as it is today."

We hope browsing through this electronic book will bring back some wonderful memories and enable readers to see how Prestbury has adapted to change and acquired the unique character for which it is known today.

To view the exhibition simply download the electronic book in PDF format (it may take a few minutes as it is a large 34mb file) which you can save on your computer to view offline and/or print. 99% of you will already have a PDF reader on your computer, but for those of you that do not, you can download one from Adobe.
