Back by popular demand, the Prestbury Choral Society is performing The Manchester Carols again this year, a 'Retelling of the Christmas Story', written by poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy and set to music by Sasha Johnson Manning.

The twelve carols are linked by an entertaining narration and can be enjoyed by believers and non believers alike. The carols draw on the nativity story's powerful themes of love and celebration which triumph against a background of war, famine, hatred and oppression so common in our world today.

The carols were first performed in 2007 at the Royal Northern College of Music, and all who worked on them live and work in Manchester.

Choir member Cynthia Crewe, said, "We are honoured and delighted to welcome Sasha Johnson Manning as both our conductor and soprano soloist, and well known baritone, Richard Strivens, as soloist and narrator. James Pelham will be our piano accompanist.

"What better way could there be to get in the mood for Christmas than to join us at this concert of memorable tunes which are beginning to become part of our Christmas carol tradition. During the interval, mulled wine and mince pies will be served, to add to the festive spirit."

The concert is on Saturday 10th December at 7.30pm at St Peter's Church. Tickets, costing £7.50, £6.50 for concessions and children under 15 free, are available at the door or in advance from 01625 829353.
