Prestbury Parish Council has invested in a shared Speed Indicator Device (SID) which can be installed around the village to detect and record the speed of approaching vehicles.
They agreed to pay £100 towards the cost of the SID, which is a portable temporary sign that records average and worst speeds on a particular stretch of road.
The device will be managed by the local neighbourhood police and shared with neighbouring areas of greater Macclesfield.
The SID has been used on a trial basis only so far, on Macclesfield Road and Wilmslow Road which are considered problem areas by the Parish Council.
Arthur Dicken, Chairman of Prestbury Parish Council, explained "Our concern arises because of our own observations, and many public complaints, about vehicles speeding dangerously down the approach roads into the village. We are trying to persuade residents to show an example by slowing the traffic at least down to the indicated speed limits on all of the roads into the village.
"One of our aims as a Parish Council is to keep Prestbury as a safe place to live, and speeding motorists present one of the greatest threats to our safety, especially that of our children and older people. Our campaign of communication, through Prestbury School, with SID's and working with the police is aimed at persuading local people that driving slowly and safely is more important than saving a few minutes - especially if the cost of your speed is someone else's injury or time in hospital."
Attached is a copy of the minutes from the December Parish Council meeting.
All Parish Council meetings are open to the public and are held in the Council Chamber above the Royal Bank of Scotland. Dates and further details for the forthcoming meetings can be found in our events calendar.
