So many young girls are on the waiting list for Prestbury Rainbows that an extra unit will be set up – provided leaders can be found.

The existing Prestbury Rainbow Unit, run by Vicky Bissett, has been running at capacity with 18 youngsters for many months. There are now 25 girls on the waiting list, wanting to join, so unless a second unit is established those on the list are unlikely to get the opportunity to experience Rainbows locally.

'Rainbows' is the first stage for 5-7-year-old girls joining Girlguiding UK. When they are seven, they go on to join Brownies, followed by Guides when they are aged 10 and Senior Section when they turn 14.

The success of the Prestbury Rainbow unit, which has the required three adults supervisors, means that Girlguiding UK is keen to set up a second unit and is appealing to women in the area to volunteer and become involved.

Anne Carsons, Prestbury Brownie Guider and a member of the District Team, said "Any women between the age of 18 and 65 can volunteer as a leader and the organisation's training process means they receive support and guidance.

"It seems such a shame that many of the youngsters on our waiting list are unlikely to be able to join Rainbows in Prestbury because our existing unit is so popular. With help from existing Guiders in the District, we could quickly get a second unit up and running providing new leaders come forward to support such a village activity."

If anybody is interested in finding out more, please phone Anne Carsons on 01625 612181.
